Ashborne Saga: surviving the slow start

May 3, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Ashborne Saga has one of the best mobile RPG stories I've played this year, but it buries that behind a genuinely sluggish opening. If someone had given me a few pointers, I'd have reached the interesting part a lot faster.

First, don't burn your early upgrade materials. The game throws easy fights at you in chapter one and it's tempting to pour everything into your starting character. There's a difficulty spike in the mid-game that will make you wish you'd saved those resources.

Second, learn to use positioning before auto-battle makes you lazy. Pulling a squishy healer out of an area attack range is a core skill, and auto-battle won't do it for you. Practise it on the trivial early fights while there's no risk.

Third, read the side dialogue. It sounds obvious, but the writing is where this game shines and skipping it turns a great story into a generic stat grind. Give it the two hours. It pays off.
